The main structural elements of the Dragon Wall Zen garden - the cottage, 2 dragon walls, 2 pagodas, bridges, 2 lion statues, and even boulders resembling animals - were literally imported with craftsmen and gardeners from Suzhou, China, world famous for its classical Chinese gardens.

AUTHENTICITY - What makes a classical Chinese garden authentic? The materials and labor must come from China. It must conform to ancient design guidelines - in essence, the garden should be a reflection of the world - mountains, rivers, vegetation, and interconnected structures. In particular, it should be enclosed by walls and include one or more ponds, rock works, trees and flowers, and an assortment of halls and pavilions within the garden, connected by winding paths and zig-zag galleries and bridges - i.e. Dragon Wall Estate's Zen Garden of Contentment & Happiness
Dragon Wall Cottage/Studio - An Extraordinary Zen-Sanctuary
An authentic Chinese cottage with one bedroom/studio, kitchenette, and bathroom with awesome views along the garden and large koi pond.
The cottage (Xiowū) also has pathway access to the house and two pagodas - one ideal as a "Zen sitting room", perfect for reading, meditation or rainy day yoga - the other as a "Zen dining room" situated next to a babbling stream, perfect for "dinner for 2" or just a glass of wine.
The South Garden
The South Garden, bordered by the Dragon Wall, offers idyllic access along one of the many diverse pathways to the cottage/studio continuing on to the "Zen Garden of Contentment & Happiness" and the Koi pond. It also connects to the more natural "The Lion & Bamboo" garden.
The East Garden
The East Garden (or front garden) borders the house, the courtyard and the driveway. It features formal lawns, many crepe myrtles, Chinese fringe trees, and waves of flowers. The annual order of appearance starting with late winter are the camellias, daffodils, Chinese fringe, dogwoods, roses, irises, lilies, lantanas, and more. The East Garden also features a unique decorative stone and tile garden featuring Chinese welcome plaques. This garden was constructed entirely from Chinese material found on the property.
Almost everyday a surprise and delight pops up, as it does for the other gardens.
The Lion & Bamboo Garden
Between the Dragon Wall and the woods lies the more wild "Lion & Bamboo Garden". This features:
- Two large lion statues. Chinese folklore says the purpose of the lions is to protect the home.
- Stands of black bamboo (one of the more desirable types of bamboo.
- Banana , Peach, Dogwood, Large pine Trees. Much of the ground is carpeted by wild strawberries.
- Just inside the forest is a small running brook.
The Arboretum Garden
The garden is ideal for taking a stroll of having a picnic. Most of the trees are flowering trees along with a collection very large and majestic pines. The flowering trees and bushes include magnolia, mimosa, dogwoods, honeysuckles, rose, Chinese fringe, lilacs, service berry, peach, white red bud, seven sun-flower, and more
The Dragon Wall Woods
Take a walk through natural forest - stroll along the meandering stream. The estate's 3-acres or so of mature forest is embedded in a much larger forest - many tens of acres. The forest surrounds the house and gardens 360 degrees, providing perfect privacy, impacted only by natural sounds.
The forest is composed of very tall trees, amplifying the euphoric feeling of privacy and Zen.
The Dog's Walled/Fenced Garden
The ample dog's garden is accessed directly from the dog's air-conditioned bedroom with water faucet in the house via a doggie door. The garden is mainly pebbles with some grass. Minimum height of wall and fence is 6 feet. The wall is an authentic Dragon Wall
